NFPG And CCFPG Walk The Walk For The Mito Foundation

NFPG and CCFPG walk the walk for the Mito Foundation

On Sunday, 7th October 2018, representatives from NFPG and CCFPG will come together as a Corporate Team for the Mito Foundation’s ‘A Bloody Long Walk’.

Starting in Belmont, the team will follow Fernleigh Track and Throsby Creek to Lee Wharf, make their way through Newcastle City to Merewether, and finally finish their trek at Newcastle Beach. The course is approximately 35 kilometres and will take 7-8 hours to complete.

Managing Partner Daniel Brown states, “Our team is dedicated to giving back to the community where possible, not just with monetary donations, but with time and effort. This is a new opportunity to literally ‘walk the walk’ and help the Mito Foundation raise much needed funding to help sufferers of mitochondrial disease”.

We are asking our communities to get behind us on the day by sponsoring our participants. Our team goal is to raise $1,400 – which is $10 per kilometre for each of the four team members. Donations can be made by following this link.

The Mito Foundation was founded as a not-for-profit organisation in 2009 to support the mito community whilst seeking a cure. 1

Mitochondrial disease (mito) is a debilitating genetic disorder that starves the body’s cells of energy, causing multiple organ dysfunction or failure and potentially death. Depending on which parts of their bodies are affected and to what degree, people with mitochondrial disease can:

  • lose their sight or hearing
  • suffer muscle weakness and pain
  • be unable to walk, eat, swallow or talk normally
  • have strokes or seizures
  • develop liver disease or diabetes
  • suffer heart, respiratory or digestive problems
  • experience developmental delays or intellectual disability

There are currently very few effective treatments and as yet no cure for mitochondrial disease. 2

A big shout out to Daniel Brown, Amber Jones, Emma Page and Ryan Bultitude for taking part and representing NFPG/CCFPG – we will be with you every step of the way!
